Core Strategic Group Celebrates a Successful 2021 with New Hires, New Offices, and Company Announcements

I hope this finds you happy and healthy during this holiday season. As we approach the beginning of 2022, I am pleased to share some exciting announcements and highlights from our team. It has been an unpredictable and exciting year!

Through the ongoing challenges of the pandemic, the Core Strategic Group’s family of companies continued to deliver for our clients across the nation, including highlights such as:
  • FSB Public Affairs, led by Frank Rizzo, managed a national federal advocacy campaign on behalf of the Cruise Lines International Association to help get the cruise industry sailing again from U.S. ports. The Anaheim office of FSBPA also worked with a broad coalition of hospitality industry partners in and around The Disneyland Resort to get Anaheim’s iconic theme parks reopened safely to welcome back guests.
  • Core Decision Analytics and its President, Adam Rosenblatt, led opinion research, analytics, and message strategy for the Kathryn Garcia campaign for Mayor of New York, leading Garcia from a longshot start to within striking distance of securing the Democratic nomination and effectively the Mayoralty.
  • Jamie Fisfis and Chariot Campaigns, geared up the Sam Brown for US Senate campaign in a race that may determine control of the US Senate next year. Along with this race, Chariot is ready for what will definitely be its biggest and most successful year ever in 2022.
  • David Wilson and the whole team at C3 Public Strategies won several key races around the nation with award-winning field programs, including an iconic write-in effort leading to the re-election of Byron Brown as Mayor of Buffalo.
  • The Core Management Company, under the inspired leadership of David Murillo, led more than a dozen industry associations and professional societies through the myriad ongoing challenges non-profit associations faced during the ongoing pandemic and onboarded four major new association clients including California Tow Truck Association and California Peace Officers Association
  • Belmont Digital Media and BadFish Media supported several of our sister companies in their operations with state of the art digital and creative strategies and executions.
  • And KPA Strategies – well, as usual, we can’t tell you what Dan Kramer and his team were up to, but if you are on the other side of KPA’s clients, you knew it!

To support all these and dozens of other client success stories, we hired 23 new team members across all of our companies, a record number of new hires for a single year. Please join me in welcoming all of our new team members to the CSG family.

We could not have added so many new team members—while staying true to our values and our dedication to finding the developing the best talent—without the tireless work of our Chief Administrative and Talent Officer, Kristy Babb.

With this focus, even as we added so many members to our teams, the quality of our carefully curated talent shined through. Core Strategic Group was once again announced as the Top Public Relations/ Public Affairs Agency by the Sacramento Business Journal.

We were also recognized by the Sacramento Business Journal as one of the Best Places to Work, as voted on by our team members. In addition, we ranked #7 on the list of Sacramento’s Fastest Growing Companies.

We are also excited to congratulate Miranda Pinto for being recognized as one of Sacramento’s 40 Under 40 nominees. Miranda is the Controller for all CSG companies and we are so incredibly proud of her for achieving this recognition. Congratulations are also in order for our General Counsel, Jerry Amante, who was recognized as an honoree at the General Counsel Awards by the Orange County Business Journal.

This year, we opened a Los Angeles office to continue serving more clients in the Southern California area. To lead this office and manage LA strategic affairs for clients, we welcomed Ruben Gonzalez as Senior Vice President and Managing Director.

While we have loved working in our Sacramento Victorian office, I am excited to share we have moved into a new office space at 100 Howe Avenue in Sacramento. We will miss our Victorian home and working in the heart of Midtown, but we are proud of all the growth our team has experienced and we are excited for this next chapter. If you are in the area, come say hi and join us for a game of cornhole!

With growing offices and 75 of the smartest campaign, public affairs, association management, grassroots and advertising professionals around, we have the scope to handle any challenge. We have the capabilities to scale our offerings based on client need—whether to utilize just one of our companies for a focused effort that demands a particular specialty, or to deploy all of our firms to help clients achieve their goals on the most complex projects. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you would like to learn more about how we can win for you.

I would like to thank everyone for your support and encouragement over the last year. During a time that has been so unpredictable, the Core Strategic Group Family of companies has been extremely fortunate. This has been our most successful year to date and we look forward to what 2022 brings. We wish you all a safe and happy holiday season and a joyous new year.

Core Strategic Group

Core Strategic Group Company Successes

FSB Public Affairs has enjoyed a busy 2021, full of client wins, new offices, and growing our team in our offices across the country. We are excited to share that FSBPA acquired Washington Media Group (WMG), a Washington, D.C. based, award-winning communications, advocacy, advertising, and research firm. WMG is one of the top media and communications firms in the nation’s capital and has provided critically important counsel to Fortune 100 and other clients, achieving results that have saved hundreds of millions of dollars and preserved critical reputational equity for its clients. WMG will further help FSBPA establish our presence in Washington, D.C.

This year, FSB Public Affairs and Core Strategic Group also hosted our first official event in St. Louis. The pandemic restricted what we could do in person when the St. Louis office opened in 2020, so an official event was postponed until this year, when our team members and event attendees could meet safely. FSBPA Senior Vice President Ryan Hawkins coordinated an evening happy hour to engage with business and community leaders and introduce attendees to CSG’s Midwest office. With the office officially open, we are excited to further expand our presence in the area.

Client Spotlight: OCTA at Día de Los Muertos

Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a celebration rooted deeply in the Latino community. It is a day to remember loved ones who have passed away by building “altares” and bringing “ofrendas” that reflect the personality and the likes of the person who is no longer in this world. Every year in Santa Ana, Viva La Vida organizes a Día de Los Muertos event in Downtown Santa Ana, in which hundreds of people gather together to admire the altars different organizations and private citizens have built to honor the Dead.

In November, the FSBPA team helped our client, the Orange County Transportation Authority, build an altar that integrated cultural graphics and food at a Dia de Los Muertos event to engage with the community. Our team of Spanish speakers, successfully connected with more than 700 people in Spanish and provided free bus passes and discussed essential infrastructure updates.

Chariot Campaigns is preparing for the biggest year in its 16-year history with several experienced and talented new hires, new media targeting technologies, and offices in Austin, Las Vegas and Washington, DC.

At the same time, 2022 is shaping up to be a banner year for our high profile clients. Chariot is serving as General Consultant for key campaigns that will play a role in the House and Senate balance of power, including Ricky Gill for Congress (CA), and Sam Brown for US Senate (NV). Chariot is also serving in lead strategy, research and media roles for federal state and local campaigns in California, Missouri, Arizona, Texas and Kentucky.

Our growing senior team includes outstanding talent with deep experience in California and national campaigns. We are very excited to welcome experienced Senior Account Supervisors Cristina Rivera, Duc Vu, and top designer Abigail Whited to the Chariot team. Senior Account Supervisors Richard Hernandez and Kristen Root continue to provide excellent campaign leadership for multiple Chariot clients, while Chariot’s Senior Designer Gregg Healy will now be providing his 20+ years of campaign design experience out of CSG’s Anaheim office.

Chariot already leverages Core Dimensions, the premier voter modeling solution for campaigns in California (and soon nationally). Meanwhile, disruption in the digital targeting industry is sparking innovation and Chariot is leading the way in sourcing and developing new targeting and analytics tools to deliver the highest quality, most efficient person-level targeting tools in the industry. Also, earlier this year Account Supervisor Jessica Gutierrez was accepted to a prestigious Coro Fellowship. We are very proud and excited about this opportunity for Jessica’s professional and career development.

Core Decision Analytics celebrated its first full year in business with exciting client missions and insightful thought leadership that drove headlines nationwide.

The Big Apple was home to many of the most closely watched contests of 2021 – and Core Decision Analytics was frequently at the very center of the action. CODA was deeply involved in competitive races throughout New York City. Our proprietary Core Dimensions approach to person-level targeting and analytics guided strategy and tactics and paved the path to victory in dozens of city council races. In addition, CODA served as chief pollster and message consultant to Kathryn Garcia during her historic run for mayor, in which she garnered 49.6% of the vote in an unprecedented race featuring NYC’s first-ever use of ranked choice voting (RCV).

Throughout the year, CODA’s highly accurate public opinion polls earned significant media coverage ranging from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Politico, and many more. CODA also launched “Pulse of the Primary: 2021 NYC Mayor’s Race” in partnership with our friends at Fontas Advisors early in 2021 and later in the year unveiled “Road to the Recall” examining the effort to remove California Governor Gavin Newsom.

We are excited to announce C3 Public Strategies was the recipient of multiple awards this year! We received two Reed Awards from Campaigns & Elections for the Best GOTV Execution and the Best Use of Mobile to Support a Field Program, as well as the Gold Pollie Award for Best Paid Field Program and the CampaignTech Award for Innovation in Virtual Voter Contact Video Canvassing.

This has been quite a busy year for the C3 Public Strategies team, and we are proud to share some exciting victories from recent elections.

  • In the Buffalo Mayor’s Race, C3 faced a very unique challenge and came out successful in a historic election, with 58.8% of the overall electorate writing in Byron Brown for Mayor in the November Election.
  • The C3 team helped Jonathan Bingle in his campaign through the Primary Election and to a 13-point victory in the Spokane City Council District 1 General Election.
  • C3 ran the GOTV field program in the last month of the Connecticut State Senate campaign and successfully helped push Ryan Fazio to victory in a race decided by only 452 votes, which gained national attention.

This year, KPA Strategies launched The KPA Report, a monthly newsletter designed to provide information and advice for all things related to public affairs campaigns and public relations, as well as investigative and opposition research. Topics ranged from conversations with attorneys to crisis communications and advice for avoiding risk. Visit the new KPA website to view all editions of The KPA Report.

In off year elections, KPA did the research that helped beat two city council incumbents – Lan Sena and Cynthia Borrego – on the Albuquerque New Mexico City Council, and KPA has played an active role in ongoing research for Nevada and Texas statewide electoral campaigns. KPA President Dan Kramer also continues to serve as the spokesperson for three large nursing home chains and KPA’s litigation support practice continues to grow and expand.

We are proud to announce two new practice areas: TCMC Outsourced Solutions, which specializes in supporting associations, societies, and other not-for-profit organizations with in-house staff; and TCMC Executive Strategies, which provides essential services to organizations in executive transitions.

TCMC Outsourced Solutions provides an outsourcing option for organizations with existing staff for an array of specific services, namely: financial/administrative/employee benefits management; event management; and government affairs for particular industries and scopes.

TCMC Executive Strategies’ mission is to ensure that an organization’s operations are effectively managed during executive transitions. We provide the Board and incoming executives key data points and organizational information to place the new management in the best trajectory for success.

A Note from our Chief Client Service Officer

“The days are long, but the years are short.” The legendary Shirley MacLaine uttered this maxim in the 2005 movie, “Rumor Has It,” little knowing how well it would apply to 2021. This year picked up where 2020 left off; front-loaded with uncertainty and fear.

As the year went on, it became a year brimming with wonderful innovation – from breakthroughs in medicine and the way we connect with each other, to turning traditional best practices across all industries upside down.

Before long, 2021 was a year filled with hope, a desire to be better than what we were and the realization that maybe we don’t need to “go back to normal,” but instead create a more meaningful, authentic tomorrow.

As the year comes to an end, all of us across our family of CSG companies continue to be grateful for our clients, who saw us as trusted partners to help solve—arguably—some of the most challenging issues their companies, associations or public agencies have ever faced. They looked to us to design new programs, develop new technologies, find greater efficiencies, build bigger partnerships, and create more effective strategies than ever before to meet their goals and objectives. Every day, our clients inspired us to be our very best.

In today’s world, a business is no longer profitable if the only focus is its bottom line. Community service and investing in our team are as important as our clients’ success. We continually challenge ourselves to do more for the communities where we operate, and provide training opportunities that equip our team members to provide the best client service possible. We’re also committed to providing more equitable access and mentorship to careers in public affairs, political advertising, communications, political research and association and society management for ALL individuals. In fact, in early 2022 we will have some very exciting news to share on this front that will further enhance our client experience.

Until then, we wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season. Hopefully we can all take some time to reflect on the good in 2021, focus on our commonalities while celebrating and recognizing our diversity, and work together in 2022 to create that “authentic tomorrow” and a future ripe with endless possibilities.
